McIntosh's A1 Team Canada campaign recognized by home fans
Montreal, Quebec (July 07, 2006) -- Sean McIntosh's global exploits racing for A1 Team Canada in last season's A1 Grand Prix of Nations have helped further elevate his profile back home in Canada -- a fact reflected in the latest polling in the 'Inside Track Readers' Choice Awards' as he emerged as the top-ranked open-wheel racing driver. The yearly poll, organized by Inside Track magazine, one of Canada's premier monthly motorsport publications, and voted for by its readers, boasts a variety of categories to showcase Canada's leading motorsport talents competing on four wheels and two, at home and abroad.
The results of the latest 'Inside Track Readers' Choice Awards' were published in the July edition of Inside Track and Vancouver's Sean McIntosh found himself in the running in no-less than four categories. The A1 Team Canada A1GP race winner and 2005 Formula Renault UK Vice-Champion saw his accomplishments recognized in the following categories; 'Road Racer of the Year', 'Up and Coming Road Racer of the Year', 'Canadian Racer of the Year Competing at the Highest Level of International Competition' and finally 'Overall Canadian Racer of the Year'.
McIntosh's rise to prominence saw him finish second in all four categories but impressively in each one he was the top-ranked open-wheel racing driver. Of more significance is the fact that in 'Road Racer of the Year', 'Canadian Racer of the Year Competing at the Highest Level of International Competition', where he finished ahead of 2003 Champ Car World Series Champion Paul Tracy, and 'Overall Canadian Racer of the Year', the 21-year-old was beaten only by Canadian sports-car veteran and fan-favorite Ron Fellows.
Commenting on his increasing profile and his performance in the polls McIntosh said: "I'm delighted that my performances over the past 12 months have been recognized by Canadian fans and I'm being viewed as more than just an emerging talent now. To be included in lists with guys like Ron Fellows and Paul Tracy is a terrific feeling and hopefully my future results will keep me in similar company as I continue to represent Canada in open- wheel competition."
McIntosh steered A1 Team Canada to victory in Round 8 of the A1 Grand Prix of Nations in February and a 10th place finish in the inaugural A1GP Nations Standings. Last season's campaign in the UK saw him claim the Vice-Champion slot in the Formula Renault UK Championship with five wins from eight podium finishes. Sean is presently competing in the European-based World Series by Renault where he lies 11th in the points after three rounds.
