GC COMMUNITY FUND KICKS OFF 50 DAY SUPERGP COUNTDOWN

Only 50 days remain before the streets of Surfers Paradise come alive for the 2009 SuperGP, and as part of the celebrations organisers today announced the local Gold Coast Community Fund as an official charity of the event.

The GCCF was established in 2000 by leading Gold Coast business figures to raise money through various projects to create a central pool of money for distribution to charities, community organisations and individuals in need across the Gold Coast.

Sailability Gold Coast -- part of Sailability Australia and the worldwide Sailability organisation -- which aims to facilitate sailing and boating activities for people with disabilities, is one such charity which frequently benefits from the Fund, and today provided the venue for the announcement which coincided with the official start of the final 50 day countdown to this year's event.

SuperGP Event Director David Bennett said he couldn't be prouder to welcome the Gold Coast Community Fund on board as an official charity in 2009.

"I can't think of a better way to celebrate our 50 day countdown today than by announcing The Gold Coast Community Fund as our official second charity, alongside Surf Life Saving Queensland," said David Bennett.

"The Gold Coast Community Fund is all about raising funds for people and organisations of the Gold Coast for their times of need, and as a Gold Coast event, this strikes a chord with everyone at the SuperGP.

"All of the money raised by the Fund goes to Gold Coast causes, with none soaked up by administration or running costs, which is a bonus.

"The GCCF will be out in force at the SuperGP in October, so I really hope everyone at the events takes the opportunity to get behind a great local charity."

Gold Coast Community Fund Chairman Simon Bennett said 100% of the funds raised by the Fund goes back to the local community.

"The Gold Coast Community Fund is thrilled to have been selected as one of the official charities for the SuperGP," said Simon Bennett.

"With all funds raised going directly back into the local community, partnering with such a premier Australian event means we are able to provide more support for growing numbers of locals groups and families in need this year.

"Having such a public arena to fund raise will undoubtedly not only be a brilliant way to promote our services but also serve as a great way to raise much needed funds leading up to the busy Christmas period."

The 2009 SuperGP will host Event 11 of the V8 Supercars Championship Series and the first round of the 2009/10 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.
