Zytek Completes Three, Highly Successful Seasons in A1GP Motorsport engineering leader now looks forward to the future

Another chapter in Zytek Engineering's highly successful history came to a close with the final A1GP race of the 2007/2008 season at Brands Hatch, England. Now, with a number of exciting developments in prospect, it is set to continue as one of motorsport's engineering front-runners.

For the first three years of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, Zytek has been the sole engine and electronics manufacturer. Once again, it has shown itself to be the ideal partner for a single specification formula with a 100 per cent reliability record for its bespoke, 3.4-litre ZA1348 engine. As when Zytek was sole engine supplier for the FIA International Formula 3000 championship, not one failure was recorded during practice, qualifying and racing. During this time, A1GP cars have covered nearly 300,000 kilometres, their drivers having made around 3.3 million gear changes using Zytek's innovative electric gearshift system (EGS). These impressive figures firmly establish Zytek as one of the world leaders in one make motor racing technology.

When it was first announced in 2004, the A1GP requirement that ultimately led to the supply of 58 engines was seen to be the largest single order in the history of motorsport. Zytek's technical expertise was again recognised this January when A1GP made history by becoming the first global motorsport series to race using E30 fuel, a 30 per cent biofuel mix. The company redeveloped the engines to ensure that the cars' performance was unaffected by the change.

Five times Grand Prix winner and regular A1GP commentator, John Watson, who has considerable experience demonstrating and testing the Zytek-engined World Cup cars, observes "Zytek has to be one of the most impressive engineering companies that I have worked with in motorsport. Its undeniable record has shown it to be without parallel."

Zytek operations director John Manchester says "We believe we have significantly contributed to the success that the A1GP series has achieved over the last three years. Our time as its sole engine supplier has now come to an end after a very rewarding period. We will now redirect those resources that have been devoted to the World Cup of Motorsport into a variety of new and exhilarating programmes, details of which be announced at the appropriate date."
