Braselton, GA - The American Le Mans Series has expanded its Media & Communications staff with the naming of Alex Thompson to the newly-created position of Media Relations Manager.
In his new position, Thompson, 26, will assist in the planning and execution of global, national and event-related media and publicity activities working in coordination with event promoters, race teams, drivers, series and event sponsors and licensees, as well as ALMS and IMSA staff. He will also be assisting and interacting with print, electronic and internet media.
Thompson comes to the ALMS from his previous position of public relations manager for the Robby Gordon Motorsports/Fruit of the Loom NASCAR Busch Series racing team. Prior to that, he worked at Champion Sports Group in Charlotte, N.C., on a variety of projects, including recording artist promotions, brand public relations/logistics and motorsports.
"As the American Le Mans Series continues to grow in national and international stature, it is important that we keep pace with the placement of talented new staff members in key new positions," said Scott Atherton, President and CEO of the ALMS. "We are pleased to welcome Alex Thompson to this new position as we expand and work toward continued growth."
Thompson, who has already assumed his new duties, is reporting to ALMS Director of Media & Communications Andy Hall and Vice-President for Communications and Broadcasting John Evenson.
Thompson is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He and his fiancée, Shannon Hays, will be getting married at the end of July and will reside in Braselton, Ga.
