British racing driver, Andy Meyrick, will drive the first production version of the revolutionary DeltaWing (powered by Elan) at the 61st Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring fuelled by ’Fresh from Florida’ on March 13-16, 2013.

I am really excited to race the DeltaWing for the first time.

DeltaWing Racing Cars returns this season following a successful debut last year when it contested two races - the 24 Heures Du Mans and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, where the team achieved a credible fifth placed finish.

Cheshire-based Andy, 27, and team mate, Frenchman Olivier Pla, shall be working with veteran British team boss David Price in his new role at DeltaWing Racing Cars and under the watchful eye of ALMS founder, Dr Don Panoz, Elan Motorsport Technologies.

“The 12 Hours of Sebring is my favourite race and I am hoping to emulate my 2010 debut when I achieved a third place podium with Dyson Racing. It is a privilege to be racing there as part of the DeltaWing Racing Cars program.

It is a revolutionary car that challenges the way we go about racing,” says Andy, who announced this week that he will also be racing with Gulf Racing UK in the 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series in a McLaren MP4-12C GT3.

“I don’t think the adjustment from the cars I am used too will be too big; in fact, I am really excited to race the DeltaWing for the first time. Its weight should make it especially nimble and reactive, and as a driver that is a key element. I am also excited and extremely motivated to be working with Don Panoz; he is one of the key supporters of sports car racing and I have full belief in the program and team that he has put together.”

The DeltaWing ran unclassified in 2012, but was closely aligned with the LMP2 class from a technical perspective. The DeltaWing is designed at Panoz's Elan Motorsport Technologies and will run a new engine unit this year, also developed at Elan.

The innovative vehicle runs on half the weight, power and drag of a typical prototype and will make its inaugural entry in the LMP1 class when it takes to the tarmac at the Sebring International Raceway, Florida next month.
