Skip Barber trained racers dominated various forms of motorsports this weekend. Among the winners and top-10 finishers were Helio Castroneves, who won the Bombardier ATV Copper World Indy 200 at Phoenix International Raceway, taking the flag by a 2.1421 second margin. The 2001 Indy 500 Champion allows Marlboro Team Penske to celebrate its first victory as a full-time Indy Racing League team. Defending series champion and fellow Skip Barber trained racer Sam Hornish Jr. finished third in the No. 4 Pennzoil Panther Dallara, 3.7688 seconds behind Castroneves.

Castroneves performed his exuberant trademark climb of the safety fencing along the front straightaway, saluting the fans after his victory. He paved the way for the fence climb by taking the lead on Lap 183 of the 200-lap race.

In NASCAR Busch Grand National action, Skip Barber trained Jeff Burton dominated the Darlingtonraceway.com 200 by starting on the pole and leading every lap. Burton repeated the same performance he turned in at Las Vegas two weeks ago by winning from the pole. He's the second NASCAR Busch Series driver to lead every lap and first to accomplish the feat on a Superspeedway. Jack Sprague and Stacy Compton finished ninth and tenth to round out the Skip Barber trained racers.

In the marquee Winston Cup event, Skip Barber principal partner DODGE captured the win in the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 at the historical raceway ahead of Jimmie Johnson (6th) and Jeff Gordon (9th). Bill Elliott rounded out the Skip Barber trained top-10.

Michelin claimed first place honors overall in the 50th running of the MOBIL 1 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Dodge, rolling the Audi R8 to winner’s circle. Skip Barber trained Butch Leitzinger finished fourth overall in the same P900 class, 16 laps down. 1991 Barber Pro Series racer Bryan Herta followed in seventh, 27 laps down while Dorsey Schroeder finished eighth. In the GTS category, former Barber Pro Series racer Terry Borcheller came in second ahead of Andy Pilgrim, who followed in fourth. Hugh Plumb claimed second in GT class ahead of driver coach Jim Pace, who came home fourth. Former Barber Dodge Pro Series pilot Andy Lally took fourth place honors in the P675 class.

As reported yesterday in the Skip Barber News, Michelin captured another victory in South East Asia after its 1-2 result in the Malaysian Grand Prix, narrowly missing out on a complete Michelin-shod podium. Ralf Schumacher claimed his second Grand Prix victory ahead of his teammate, 1994 Barber Pro Series racer Juan Pablo Montoya, both racing for the BMW-Williams F1 team. Renault's Jenson Button, also on Michelin rubber, was seated for third until the last lap when he was upset by four-time World Champion Michael Schumacher.
