Conway sets fastest time subbing for Briscoe in Friday test at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

A heavy rain hit the 2.459-mile circuit one hour into the session prompting several teams to call it an early day.

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario – The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón turned its first laps north of the border Friday with 30 entries taking part in a Promoter Test Day at the newly renovated Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Mike Conway set the fastest overall time with a lap of 1:10.656 in the No. 552 Siemens/Alpina Watches/Ohiya Casino Resort HPD ARX-03b for Level 5 Motorsports. Conway is subbing for Ryan Briscoe who fractured his right wrist in an IndyCar event in Toronto last week.

Conway edged Extreme Speed Motorsports driver Johannes van Overbeek in the No. 02 Tequila Patrón HPD ARX-03b by 0.627 seconds to set the top time overall and in the P2 class. P1 entries from Muscle Milk Pickett Racing and Dyson Racing did not take time in the session, while the DeltaWing LM12 was eighth overall.

The GT class was led by the No. 93 Pennzoil Ultra SRT Viper GTS-R of Jonathan Bomarito and Canadian Kuno Wittmer. Jan Magnussen was second in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6 ZR1 for Corvette Racing, followed by the No. 56 BMW North America, LLC BMW Z4 GTE, which rounded out the top three.

Colin Braun enters this weekend’s Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix with his sights set on the Prototype Challenge presented by Continental Tire (PC) points lead. He’s off to a good start, posting the fastest time in class, 1:11.814, in the No. 05 Composite Resources ORECA FLM09. Braun trails Mike Guasch by two points entering the event.

The No. 8 Evident Capital/MBRP Performance Exhaust/Merchant Services Ltd. ORECA FLM09 co-driven by Canadians Kyle Marcelli and Chris Cumming was second at 1:12.176 for BAR 1 Motorsports. Third in PC was the No. 9 RSR Racing ORECA entry of co-drivers Bruno Junqueira and Duncan Ende.

Jeroen Bleekemolen led eight GTC entries with a lap of 1:22.459 in the No. 22 WeatherTech Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3. Bleekemolen and co-driver Cooper MacNeil enter this weekend’s event trailing Henrique Cisneros by four points in the standings.

Dempsey Del Piero Racing was second in GTC with Andy Lally turning a lap of 1:22.667 in the No. 27 Tully’s Coffee Porsche 911 GT3, followed by the No. 44 PR Newswire/eSilicon Porsche 911 GT3 Cup shared by Seth Neiman and Dion von Moltke at 1:22.928 for Flying Lizard Motorsports.

Official on-track activity for the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m. ET with opening practice. There will be two practice sessions before qualifying at 3:30 p.m. ET. The Mobil SportsCar Grand Prix begins at noon ET on Sunday with live coverage on ESPN2 and ESPN3 (live ESPN2 coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET).
