BOWMANVILLE, Canada - Leh Keen and Townsend Bell will start the Team West/Alex Job Racing/Boardwalk Ferrari from the fifth row in GT for tomorrow's American Le Mans Series Canadian Tire Motorsports Park Grand Prix of Mosport.
Bell (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) had the controls of the No. 23 Team West/Alex Job Racing Ferrari for qualifying. The Californian put in a time of 1:17.039 good for tenth in the ultra-competitive GT Class. Keen (Charleston, SC) is subbing for team regular Bill Sweedler (Westport, Conn.) and is enjoying his time at Mosport behind the wheel of the nice handling 458 GT."Mosport is fun to drive in this Ferrari," Bell said. "Mosport is big commitment track. I was able to work my way up to going flat through Turn Four, which is a requirement in a GT car to be fast. We need to keep finding more and more grip with the car. We are balancing the aero to the find the ultimate balance of speed and handling.
In practice and with what the race pace will be we are very close. With the track temperatures dropping that will also help us on these Yokohama tires. Leh is fun to race with and is bringing some fresh perspective that has helped as well."
Keen likes the challenge of the 2.4-mile, 10-turn Mosport circuit and the way the Team West/Alex Job Racing Ferrari handles.
"The Ferrari is really fast," Keen said. "It is fun to drive a fast car on a fast track like Mosport. It is great to be back with Alex Job and the team. They are really getting going with the Ferrari. Mosport is one of the fastest road courses in North America. The Yokohama tires have been really good on the car. They are making performance strides every weekend. We are dialing the car into the tires and the track and it is really fun to drive."
Eduardo Espindola, team co-owner, is pleased with the work of the drivers this weekend... "Leh and Townsend are working hard with the team to get the car dialed into this fast track," Espindola said. "This is our first time at this track with this car and tire combination. The conditions have changed from really hot yesterday to cool today and it is supposed to be even cooler tomorrow."
Alex Job, team co-owner, is happy with the teams pace... "Townsend and Leh are doing a great job with the Ferrari 458 this weekend," Job said. "In practice we are right in the mix with our lap times. Yokohama doesn't have a qualifying tire, so that puts us at a disadvantage at the start, but our race pace should be very competitive."
