March 21, 2009 -- 4:30 pm ET -- At the halfway point of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche is in fifth and the No. 44 is in sixth. Both cars have patiently worked their way from the back of the field after a rough start to the 12-hour race. Joerg Bergmeister started second on the grid in the No. 45, and Seth Neiman started 13th. It was a clean race start for the entire field, but soon turned ugly for the Lizards when on the fourth lap the No. 45 was hit by the No. 40 Robertson Racing Ford, causing rear suspension damage to the No. 45. The Lizard crew made the repair in the pits but the lengthy stop dropped the No. 45 from third to 13th. The No. 44 also had some issues early in the race with a spin which sent it back to the pits for an unscheduled pit stop and fresh tires.
After the two incidents, both of which occurred in the first 5 minutes of the 12-hour race, the Lizards have stayed out of trouble and 6 hours into the race are in P 5 and P 6. The Lizard drivers are now into their second stints -- Marc Lieb will shortly take the wheel of the No. 45 for his second stint (following Joerg and Patrick Long) and Johannes van Overbeek will get in the No. 44 for his second stint (following Seth Neiman and Darren Law).
The GT2 leader is the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari who has held the lead for most of the race, after starting from the rear of the grid.
Joerg Bergmeister in the No. 45 has the fastest GT2 time of the race so far, with a 2:02.644.
