Vipers from SRT Motorsports qualifying 9th and 11th in Monterey

Marc Goossens – No. 91 Fast & Furious 6 SRT® Viper GTS-R Qualified 9th: “Not sure what happened there because I sure had traction control in the first part of the session and then the traction control went away.

They need to find out. Other than that, the car is similar to what we had before. We’re still finding a little bit of grip. Overall, I can say that the way the SRT team has been working all weekend, it’s put us in the right direction. We’re slowly getting there. We’re making improvements.

The car gets a little bit better every time we go out. But in qualifying, the TC (traction control) played up in the second part of my run. It is what it is. We had a decent lap, not good enough to be up front but it’s better than what we’ve been doing all weekend.

I’m happy that we’re making the progress but on the other hand, we’re still off, too much off the fast guys. We’ll see what solution we have for the warm up. If we make the car better again, it will make it easier for the race itself.”

Kuno Wittmer – No. 93 Pennzoil Ultra SRT Viper GTS-R Qualified 11th: “It’s our first visit here with these cars. We didn’t get to test or have any data from the previous years here. We came here with a setup and played with it as much as we could yesterday in testing and today in practice.

We gave it all we had as far as what the cars have right now. We just need to keep working at it for the race. I think for the race we have a pretty good race car. I feel pretty good in the car and so do the other drivers. As far as qualifying went, it’s definitely a little bit disappointing coming from a high off Long Beach. You know, the season moves on and now we look at the race tomorrow.”

Gary Johnson – SRT Motorsports Racing Manager" “I don’t think we’re as happy with the qualifying as we could be. We’re a little bit down on power at this track on the straight and we’re not quite as good in the chassis setup as we want to be. We’ve tried a lot of different things but it hasn’t all come together. We’ll end up making some changes tonight and hopefully have a better day tomorrow.”
