AURORA, Ill. - The 2001 season of EA SPORTS Supercross Presented by Speed Stick will highlight Round 2 of the Vans Triple Crown of Supercross, the Ford Ranger Pro, brought to you by Mountain Dew and Vans on ABC from Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas this Sunday, April 22nd at 5:00 p.m. ET/ 4:00 p.m. PT. Team Mazda Yamaha's Jeremy McGrath completed the first of three steps to win the Vans Triple Crown of Supercross by winning the opening round of the three-race series at Anaheim #2.
Round 2 of the Vans Triple Crown of Supercross, in its third season, will take place April 21st with an ABC airdate the following day. In the three-year history, the Vans Triple Crown has yet to pay out the $500,000 purse to a single winner. This season could mark the first time in its history that a rider picks up the enormous purse, and who better than Jeremy McGrath. McGrath can move one step closer to the enormous jackpot if he wins this weekend in Irving.
The first-annual Vans Triple Crown of Supercross witnessed Team Honda's Ezra Lusk winning $25,000 after coming up short of winning all three rounds (The rider with the most points in the Vans Triple Crown of Supercross events wins $25,000 if no one wins all three rounds.). Then again in 2000, Team Yamaha's David Vuillemin could have cashed in on the half million dollars but came up short on winning all three rounds. The final round of the Vans Triple Crown of Supercross will take place May 5th at Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium.
"Vans is ecstatic about being a part of EA SPORTS Supercross and a sponsor of Jeremy McGrath," said Jay Wilson, Vice President of Global Sports Marketing. "The Vans Triple Crown events are helping take extreme sports to a new level, and I feel that some day it will be as popular as the stick and ball sports."
EA SPORTS Supercross will culminate in Las Vegas on May 5th, with round 16, which will be featured live on Pay-Per-View. For more information, contact your local cable provider.
