Gibson Motorsports moves to ARCA series

Gibson Motorsports Refocuses Racing Efforts; John Gibson Preparing For Transition To ARCA

Gibson Motorsports Refocuses Racing Efforts; John Gibson Preparing For Transition To ARCA

STATESVILLE, North Carolina (February 26, 2011) - - Gibson Motorsports, family owned and operated in Statesville, North Carolina announced today their intent to move their team from the USARacing Pro Cup Series to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards in 2011 with driver John Gibson at the helm.

Gibson Motorsports started their presence in the USARacing Pro Cup Series in 2006 and gradually increased their schedule to a season-high 13 races in 2010. However with the 26-year old determined to move up the ladder, the team has elected to bow-out of their endeavors in USAR and strive towards ARCA, a series that hails similarities towards NASCAR where Gibson hopes to eventually land.

During his five year tenure in USAR, Gibson has accumulated 46 starts, five top-fives and 17 top-10 runs. He has also controlled the field for 85 laps. In 2010, at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway, the Springfield, Missouri native started fifth and roared to a career-best second in his No. 13 Mitigator / Spray Paint and Equipment / RF85 Ford Fusion.

"The USARacing Pro Cup Series is a great series and I'm very appreciative of the time we've spent there, but as a company, we feel that advancing our platform to the ARCA Racing Series in 2011 just seems right," said John Gibson.

The former International Karting Federation (IKF) champion added, "the transition will not be easy. We've decided to sell the USAR cars to allow another team or driver to add some good race cars to their fleet. Once we've crossed that project off, we'll focus on looking at some ARCA cars to buy. We're going to ease ourselves into the series. We're not planning to race until mid-season or near the end, but it's going allow us some time to make sure we do everything right and even allow me to do some coaching or other racing-related things on the USAR side if need be."

Gibson also stressed that his limited schedule in ARCA this year will be dependent on the team's sponsorship dollars. "Mitigator has been a great supporter to this race team and we know if they make this leap with us, it will be beneficial for our platform all the way around. We're also working on some other avenues, so hopefully we'll be okay."

Currently, the team is eyeing several short tracks and the final intermediate race of the season at Kansas Speedway in October as potential outings.

Gibson Motorsports also confirmed today that they will utilize Mooresville's Knight Motorsports Management (KMM) on a consultant basis in 2011.
