NOTES OF INTEREST: This year's version of the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 will mark the 68th appearance of the ultra popular ARCA RE/MAX Series at Salem Speedway. Salem has been a staple on the RE/MAX Series schedule since 1955 when Jack Harrison won the inaugural event in a Ford. ARCA legend Jack Bowsher and local favorite Frank Kimmel are the all-time Salem winners with 5 wins each while Tim Steele, Les Snow & Ramo Stott are next with 4 wins each. Kimmel has won 5 of the last 8 RE/MAX Series races at Salem including the last 3 consecutive. While Kimmel is the unequivocal favorite, the Jeffersonville, Indiana driver may have his hands full with all the young talent and newcomers incoming including point leader 22-year-old Walkerton, IN driver Chad Blount, 2nd in points Damon Lusk and 4th in points rookie Shelby Howard of Greenwood, IN. Jason Jarrett, son of 99 Winston Cup champ Dale Jarrett, is entered in the Indiana-based ML Motorsports entry while Oxford UK driver Michael Vergers is scheduled to make his first Salem appearance in Bob Schacht's Ford Taurus. In addition, Laurel Mississippi driver Robert Burroughs will make his career-first Salem appearance as will Pryor Oklahoma sprint car driver Christi Passmore in an Andy Belmont Motorsports Ford. In addition to the normal pre-race festivities, ARCA, in honor of its 50th anniversary season, will be recognizing past ARCA winners during the program, which also includes a pre-race, on-track driver autograph session. This year's $108,042 purse is a record amount for the RE/MAX Series at Salem. Notable RE/MAX Series past winners at Salem include Winston Cup champion Bobby Allison, six-time RE/MAX Series champion Iggy Katona, '52 Indy 500 winner Troy Ruttman, USAC stock car veteran Don White and Winston Cup regular Ken Schrader to name a few.
