Patel and Gilbert had started the inaugural season on a high-note, taking a conclusive victory in the season-opener on Saturday.
While the top step on the podium remained out of reach in Sunday’s Race 2, the Indo-Australian duo claimed another podium finish to leave the first round as the championship leaders.
Having started in the thick of the midfield in eight, Patel made a good getaway and gained a position on the opening lap.
The rest of the opening stint, however, proved to be difficult for the Audi-backed driver, who slipped behind a charging Raffaele Marciello and Massimiliano Wiser.
When the pitlane opened, Patel handed over the keys of the Audi R8 LMS to teammate Gilbert, who set about on a charge after serving a 10-second penalty.
The Australian started hammering down the field, overtaking a slew of drivers in the second half of the race
The 22-year-old eventually went on to finish in second place, to add to yesterday’s lights-to-flag win.
At the front, it was the BBT Ferrari of Anthony Liu and Davide Rizzo that claimed the top spot on the podium, while Marchy Lee and Shaun Thong Wei Fung made it two Audi R8s on the rostrum.
