The weekend of the 5th – 7th of August will see the second round of the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup take place at the Sepang International Circuit. Running alongside the Malaysia Championship Series once more, the event looks to be a part of another busy weekend.

The entry list for round two of the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup is shaping up to be very similar to round one, with 11 cars entered, 10 of which took part in the first event. The extra entry on the provisional list comes from PS Racing who have entered a car in the LMP3 class, an ADESS 03, to join their full season CN car, the Ligier JS 53.

This means that this upcoming weekend will see at least 6 LMP3 cars, 1 CN and 4 GTCup cars take to the track for two free practice sessions, two qualifying sessions, and two races.

Already nearing the halfway mark, points earned from the two races this weekend will be vital towards winning the titles. Everything is still to play for, and after only just two races, anything can still happen. We saw last round that competition is close and strong in the LMP3 class, and we can expect more of the same this upcoming weekend, from WINEURASIA, DC Racing and PS Racing’s Ligier JSP3, Nexus Infinity and Team AAI’s ADESS 03 and PRT Racing’s Ginetta LMP3.

The CN class is being represented once more by PS Racing’s Ligier JSP3, and in the GT-Cup, the three Team Lotus HK Lotuses are joining us again, along with the Team NZ Porsche.

This all adds up to 7 different makes of car over the three classes, which makes for an interesting mix on the grid for round two.

24 Hours of Le Mans participation

Although it has been a couple of months since round 1 back in May, this doesn’t mean the teams have not been busy in the meantime. Many of the Asian Le Mans teams and drivers travelled to France in June to take part in the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as the new ‘Road to Le Mans’ race which took place as a curtain raiser for the 24 Hours. Road to Le Mans, reserved for LMP3 and GT3 cars, saw Asian LMS Champions and Asian LMSC entrant DC Racing claim the victory. Asian LMSC and LMS teams PS Racing, Wineurasia and Race Performance also took part with LMP3 cars.

Taking part in the main event were Asian LMS regulars Algarve Pro Racing, Eurasia Motorsport, Race Performance and Baxi DC Racing Alpine, running in the LM P2 class. Clearwater Racing made the most of the entry that they won from the 2015-16 Asian LMS season, by taking part in the LM GTE Am class as the first Singaporean entry in Le Mans, coming 4th in class. KCMG and Team AAI were also racing in the LMGTE Am class.

With all these teams taking part in the great week-long event that is the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it really reinforces the links between the Asian Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the pinnacle and ultimate goal of many entrants.
