Portland: Antoine Bessette Saturday notes

Bessette slowed by a backmarker

Portland, Oregon, June 18. -- Antoine Bessette drove an outstanding first race in the Formula Atlantic double header but was denied a podium when he was pushed off track while passing a backmarker two-lap down. He had to drive on the grass for a many seconds, thus loosing a few positions and a podium finish. "The blue flag was waved at the guy (Glover) and he knew I was behind him. But when I drove right beside him, he decided to move left. I had to drive off the track and complete the turn in the grass, giving back the third place I had secured. I lost at least 15 seconds and was not able to come back. The trouble in this series is not to pass fast cars but slow guys who think they are going fast!"

Although unofficial, Bessette retains his second place in the championship as he will start from fifth place again tomorrow morning for the second race of the Toyota Formula Atlantic championship in Portland's double header.

"The Polestar #3 UNIK Auto Design car was very quick today, said AB. I made my way from fifth to third and had a chance for second place. Let's hope the slow guys don't keep us from racing tomorrow."

Race #2 is set for 1:00 ET tomorrow at Portland, a 1,964 10-turn permanent road course. Antoine Bessette will drive the Polestar Racing Group #3 UNIK Auto Design car.
