Pecorari, a deserving fourth in Road America
Road America, September 25th, 2006. -- Gelles Racing Champ Car Atlantic driver Robbie Pecorari and the #28 Western Union car finished in fourth place in the last round of the 2006 Champ Car Atlantic Championship at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Starting from the fourth line, Pecorari dropped a few positions on the start before carving his way to a well deserved fourth place, his second best result of the season. Meanwhile, teammate Colin Fleming in the #14 eSoles/King Taco finally took to the track with two laps into the race but ended up in 13th place after a wild comeback.
"This kind of performance is Robbie's trademark, claimed team owner Bob Gelles. He always makes sure he gets a clean start and then gets to work. He went from 10th to 4th in only 18 laps and four full course yellows. One has to give credit to this young man. Colin was very unfortunate. He had to sit in the pit lane waiting for the crew to fix a mechanical problem with the transmission. The race was two laps down when he took off but he enjoyed himself coming from dead last to 13th overall and the 8th fastest time. It was an exciting day for our drivers."
``That's a fine season ending, added Pecorari. When you have a good car like I did, you want more laps and no yellow flags to slow you down. I felt I could have made it to the podium again, but we had eight laps out of 18 behind the pace car.``
``I really enjoyed myself, said Fleming. Once I realized I was far behind, I decided to have fun and reel in some fast laps and pass as many cars I could. Finally, earning points in the end seems a fair reward. Beside the mechanical hiccup, the car was strong and fun to drive.``
