Top five at Road America for Ryan Lewis

Ryan Lewis completed the Champ Car Atlantic season yesterday with a strong showing at the Road America season finale. While his team-mate, Graham Rahal, battled for the Championship, Ryan enjoyed his weekend of racing, finishing the race in fifth place. This was the Briton's fourth top-five finish of the season.

Ryan finished Friday's provisional qualifying session, run in wet conditions, in seventh place, declaring himself "happy with the car and really enjoying the Road America track". It looked like Ryan was going to produce his best qualifying position of the season on Saturday but a red flag put a stop to the session as he was nearing the end of a hot lap.

"The car was very good," said Ryan after qualifying in ninth position for Sunday's race. "When the red flag came out we were on a quick lap that would have probably put us first according to our split times. Obviously everybody says that but we could have been a lot further up really, it's just some bad luck. For tomorrow, if the car is as good as it was today we can definitely move up. It is pretty easy to pass here and I am going to give it my best shot."

The race started well for Ryan and by lap seven he was up into fourth place. He held onto his position until the penultimate lap when he dropped to fifth after being passed by Robbie Pecorari.

"We could have been a bit more competitive today," said Ryan. "Through the corners the car was pretty good. It took a couple of laps for the car to get up to speed so the restarts didn't play in our favour. All the way round I struggled for some straight line speed so the guys up front were able to build up a gap and I couldn't really catch up unfortunately. But overall it was a good race and I'm glad I came home fifth."
