Forsythe Atlantic Foursome Quick in Toronto Provisional Qualifying

TORONTO, Ontario -- July 7, 2006 -- Forsythe Championship Racing's four-car Atlantic team had a good day at the Molson Grand Prix of Toronto as they swept the second and fourth rows of Friday's Provisional qualifying for Sunday's main event. Andreas Wirth topped the leaderboard for much of the session but ultimately settled for third spot with Toronto native James Hinchcliffe on his gearbox in fourth. Richard Philippe jumped up to seventh just past the midway point of the session while Leonardo Maia held eighth spot before becoming involved in an incident with a car that had spun on the front straight, ending the session several minutes early.

Andreas Wirth #37 INDECK/Layer 7/Wirth Solar Mazda-Cosworth/Yokohama/Swift
Qualified Third

"The car was very good at first on older tires and I was able to post the quickest time in the first half of the session, but when we went to a new set of Yokohamas we lost a bit of the balance. I was going to come in for an adjustment just as Leo had his crash, so the Red Flag ended the session early and that was it. But all of our cars were quick so I think we'll have a good day tomorrow in Final Qualifying!"

James Hinchcliffe #3 Emexis/INDECK Mazda-Cosworth/Yokohama/Swift
Qualified Fourth

"The car was great! It's my first day driving on this track so I'm fairly pleased with the outcome. I had time for one more change to the car before the Red Flag came out, but that's what street racing is all about. I'm having a lot of fun here in my home town; I've been coming to this race since I was three years old! I really hope to add a "W" (for win) to my ledger this weekend for all the great Toronto fans!"

Richard Philippe #33 INDECK/Layer 7 Mazda-Cosworth/Yokohama/Swift
Qualified Seventh

"The car was good and it's nice to see all four of us in the top eight. We made a big improvement to the car in the middle of the session and it was much better, but just as my last set of tires was coming up to temperature the Red Flag came out so that was disappointing since there was more speed in the car. Lee (Bentham, team driving coach and former Atlantic Champion) helped me with some good advice on the radio during the session and I'm confident that we'll be quick tomorrow!"

Leonardo Maia #7 Layer 7/INDECK Mazda-Cosworth/Yokohama/Swift
Qualified Eighth

"The car was pretty good and I was up there in the top five for a while, but when we went to new tires the balance went off just a bit so we've got a bit of work to do. It was unfortunate at the end when I came around the fast sweeper onto the front straight and there was a spun car (Duncan Ende, #55) right in front of me. I slid sideways into him and his front wheel hit right on the side of the cockpit so it was a pretty good hit. I'm pretty sore so hopefully I won't be too stiff tomorrow, but the car wasn't damaged too badly and the Forsythe crew will do their magic and put it back good as new. We seem to be doing well as a team this weekend so hopefully we can all improve tomorrow."

Final Qualifying for Sunday's Molson Grand Prix of Toronto Atlantic Race gets underway Saturday afternoon at 1:15pm ET (17:15 UTC). The seventh round of the Yokohama Presents the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda will begin with an F1-style standing start on Sunday at 10am ET (14:00 UTC).
