Chase Griffin joins South Boston Speedway staff

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. -- Chase Griffin, a South Boston native, has been named the Director of Marketing/Sales at South Boston Speedway.

The 22-year-old Griffin graduated from Appalachian State University in December with a degree public relations/marketing. Prior to attending Appalachian State, Griffin received his high school diploma from Halifax County High School in South Boston, Va.

In addition to his duties as Director of Marketing/Sales at South Boston Speedway, Griffin will also assume some of the duties that were vacated when former Ticket Manager Tracey Whitt resigned in December to accept another position.

Griffin formerly served as an intern at South Boston Speedway, working closely each race day with Director of Media Operations Tim Chandler and other members of the media.

"We are delighted to have someone with Chase's knowledge and experience in racing here at South Boston Speedway," General Manager Cathy Rice said. "Chase has a lot of enthusiasm and a great love for the sport of racing. He also is very familiar with the South Boston area and I'm sure our sponsors will look forward to working with him. We already know that Chase has a great work ethic after watching him perform his duties as an intern at the speedway last season."

Griffin is the son of J.R. and Mary Lynn Griffin. He has a 19-year-old sister, Stacie, and a 16-year-old brother, Trevor.

The 2005 racing season is fast approaching at South Boston Speedway. The new season will get cranked up on Saturday, March 12. The 2005 racing schedule at South Boston Speedway consists of 25 events.
