2010 NAIAS to See Improved Cobo Center
Detroit, MI - October 1, 2009 - Work on upgrades for the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is well underway at Detroit's Cobo Center. The new regional authority governing the facility has seen $9.4 million advanced to Cobo from the State of Michigan, with approximately $3 million to be used for renovations that will be completed in time for the 2010 NAIAS in January, one of the world's premiere automotive events.
Primary upgrades include electrical, loading docks, roof repairs, floor and landscape improvements - all of which will be welcomed by exhibitors and show organizers alike.
"The NAIAS is a critical, must-attend stop on the international auto show circuit and has been for decades," said Doug Fox, Chairman of the 2010 NAIAS. "We have done a great job with the tools given, but we live in a mode of continuous improvement just like our exhibitors. To give them these upgrades will have an immediate impact on an outstanding show, going beyond expectations once again. We'll be providing existing and potential exhibitors with a venue that keeps it on par with the world's premiere international shows."
A primary example is that the loading docks will be upgraded to include a new covered area to increase safety and efficiency for load-in and load-out during the winter months.
Fox said these improvements are just the beginning; longer term improvements will include reducing the cost of doing business in Cobo and making it more user-friendly, upgrading the facility's quality and service.
