(HALIAFX, N.S. March 19) - Officials for both the newly-formed Maritime Pro Stock Tour and for CarQuest Auto Parts are pleased to announce CarQuest has signed on as title sponsor for the stock car touring series. The series will be called the CarQuest Pro Stock Tour. "This is a major boost for us," said Bas Gordon, General Manager of the series. "We have been overwhelmed by the support from the racers and now to have formed a partnership with a major corporation like CarQuest is more than we could have imagined." CarQuest Auto Parts is involved in racing programs throughout the United States and Canada. Wayne Johnston, General Manager for the Atlantic Division of CarQuest, is just as excited as Gordon to be involved. "We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with the racers and race-fans in the Maritimes," said Johnston. The driver list for the new series is the strongest of recent years in Atlantic Canada with more than 30 teams expected to participate, all vying for their share of the rich $50,000 point fund. The battle for the championship will be fierce with $10,000 on the line for first-place overall on the season-ending standings. "It's been a while since we've seen these guys racing each other on a track in these parts," said Gordon. "It will be exciting for everyone." The 12-race series will see events in the three Maritime provinces at five different facilities, including Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, Nova Scotia (May 12, June 23 and Aug. 25); New Brunswick International Speedway in Geary, New Brunswick (May 26, June 16 and August 18); Centre For Speed in Shediac, New Brunswick (June 2 and July 21); Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI (July 7 and August 5); and Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia (July 1 and September 2). All feature events will feature 100 laps of green flag racing.
