STUART, Virginia - Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Warner today announced that he will partner with Jon Wood as the sponsor of the No.15 Billy Ballew Motorsports Ford in the April 7 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in Martinsville, Va.
"Not only is the Wood family the 'First Family of Auto Racing' in Virginia and the winningest Ford team in history, but they are true Virginia legends" mentioned Warner. "At a time when it seems the entire NASCAR industry is moving to our neighbors to the south, the Wood Family continues to make Virginia its home. The people of Virginia love them, and it's clear that they love Virginia.
"I can think of no better place to join the legendary Woods Brothers Racing team than at the Martinsville Speedway. Under the leadership of Speedway President Clay Campbell, Martinsville has become one of the premiere racetracks in the country. I always enjoy visiting the track, and I look forward to watching Jon at the track this Saturday.
"We are really proud to team up with Mark Warner," said Wood. "I don't know that much about politics but I do know that Mark Warner has done a lot for the state of Virginia and that he would make a great Governor. We're going to do our best to qualify the Mark Warner for Governor Ford F-150 well and run a good race.
"And I think we have a great shot at showing well. I've run at Martinsville in the Allison Legacy Series and have been on the track in a couple different rides. Plus, Billy Ballew Motorsports always brings good equipment with the right set up to Martinsville. They led last year with Bobby Gill before breaking a gear. Crew Chief, Richie Wauters has been working night and day on the truck, so if the weather holds out, I'm confident we'll do well."
Billy Ballew Motorsports and Jon Wood plan to compete in several more NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races this year if a sponsor can be found.
Jon Wood began racing go-carts when he was 12 years old and has steadily moved through to the competitive ranks. Wood competed in the USAR ProCup Series last year finishing eighth in the championship points race and third in the rookie standings. He qualified fourth and finished 11th in the February 4 Winston West race at the Phoenix International Raceway.
