Martinsville Speedway Announces New Position, New Hire
MARTINSVILLE, VA (October 5, 2007) -- Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell announced recently that longtime speedway marketing director Karen Parker had been selected to fill a newly-created position at the track.
He also announced that Andy Williams, who has a decade of experience in intercollegiate and international athletics, will head the speedway's marketing department.
Parker has been named Martinsville Speedway's Director of Business Development and Partnerships. Williams will be the track's Senior Director of Marketing and Sales.
"I am excited to announce this restructuring of our management team, bringing in Andy and redirecting the energies of Karen to a new role," said Campbell. "Andy comes to us with years of experience in working major sports events and venues. We expect his knowledge of sports management and marketing to be a tremendous asset to the company.
"I am equally excited and anticipate positive results in promoting Karen to her new role. Her many years of experience in this business, coupled with her vast knowledge of the industry make her uniquely qualified for this position."
Parker, 37, came to work in Martinsville Speedway's marketing department in 1993 after six years at Motor Mile Speedway near Radford. Her duties as Marketing Director included handling race sponsorships, suites, hospitality, event weekend displays, advertising and promotions.
In her new job as Director of Business Development and Partnerships, Parker will identify new methods to enhance company brands and products and maintain relationships with existing partners and interaction with guests to ensure maximum positive awareness.
As Martinsville Speedway's Senior Director of Marketing and Sales, Williams will develop, manage, direct and implement sales and marketing strategies and leverage resources to sell all available inventory at Martinsville Speedway.
Williams has been the Director of Event Management for the University of Virginia Athletic Department since 2004. Prior to that, he was the Director of Operations at the University of Houston. He was also a venue operations manager during the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games of 2002 in Salt Lake City.
Williams received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia in 1997 and earned a Master of Science in Sport Management from Georgia in 1999.
