Hagerstown's Frank Plessinger Earns LMS Promoter of the Year Award

CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2004) - Frank Plessinger, the longtime owner and promoter of Maryland's Hagerstown Speedway, will be honored as the Lowe's Motor Speedway Promoter of the Year during pre-race festivities for the UAW-GM Quality 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event on Saturday night, Oct. 16.

Under Plessinger's guidance, the half-mile dirt track annually hosts one of the country's most diversified schedules. With a season stretching from late February to the end of October, Hagerstown Speedway's weekly schedule features late model stock cars, but its array of special events ranges from flat-track motorcycles to Monster Trucks to World of Outlaws sprint cars.

"Frank Plessinger's tireless efforts at Hagerstown Speedway have created one of this country's most unique motorsports destinations," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "His dedication to running a tight, efficient program-combined with an emphasis on fan-friendly admission prices and entertaining special events-has made Hagerstown Speedway one of the most popular tracks on the East Coast.

"The blue-ribbon panel that annually selects the Lowe's Motor Speedway Promoter of the Year places heavy emphasis on a track's entertainment value, and it's clear to see why Frank Plessinger was selected to receive this year's award."

Celebrating its 57th season, Hagerstown Speedway hosts such premier national events as the Hub-City National 150 for late model stock cars and the Hub-City Classic for the Grand National motorcycles of the American Motorcyclist Association. An Easter egg hunt, fireworks, a Father's Day celebration, demolition derbies, enduro races and an Octoberfest Camping Party, complete with food and musical entertainment, are just a sampling of the track's many special events.

Former recipients of the Lowe's Motor Speedway Promoter of the Year Award include Earl Baltes, Ralph Capitani, Ned Jarrett, Bill Donoho, Dick and Bob Bahre, Charles PoweII, Mickey Swims and Tom Curley.

Tickets for the UAW-GM Quality 500, round five of the 10-race Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, on Saturday night, Oct. 16, start at just $29 and can be obtained online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-455-FANS.
