Robin Brundle announced as Managing Director of Lola Cars International Limited

Lola Group Executive Chairman, Martin Birrane, has today announced the appointment of Robin Brundle as Managing Director of Lola Cars International, the Huntingdon based racecar manufacturer and provider of services to the motorsport and automotive sectors.

Brundle joins at the beginning of January. Martin Birrane commented, "Robin knows about businesses and what makes them work. He has long associations and a proven record with the motorsport and automotive sectors. Lola Cars' business is well positioned, notwithstanding the current worldwide economic situation, and Robin will bring organisation and leadership to the existing senior management as we capitalise on the opportunities that we have."

Brundle's most recent appointment was as Managing Director at Aston Martin Racing. At 46, most of his career to date has been as Managing Director of his family owned retail automotive business, which he built up with his brother and successfully sold in 2006. During this time he has also held senior positions on trade boards including seven years business reporting to the Bank of England monetary policy agents.

Brundle said of the appointment "I have for many years admired the level of success that Lola products have achieved. I now intend to make my own contribution to the Lola team, our customers, business partners and the governing bodies and look forward to working closely with Martin, Andrew Manahan (Group MD) and their highly successful team".

2009 racing programmes for Lola Cars include Le Mans Prototypes for LMP1 and LMP2 (both open and closed cockpit versions) in the Le Mans Series, the American Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours. Lola also has a Grand Am project where it is looking to increase sales in 2009 of its Daytona Prototype car, currently raced successfully by Krohn Racing. Other product lines include Sports 2000, World Junior single seater school cars, trackday cars and the iconic Continuation T70 Coupe and Spyder models.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2008, Lola is one of the longest established and most successful constructors of racing cars in the world, keeping itself at the forefront of design and technology by investing in state of the art facilities including Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis, a 50% scale wind tunnel and a 7 post aerodynamic suspension and chassis set up rig. The company is equipped and has the skills to carry out any major motorsport programme for a manufacturer from F1 through Touring Cars to Le Mans Prototypes.

Having built more customer racing cars than any other constructor in the history of motorsport, Lola now also services the Aerospace, Marine, Automotive, Defence and Communications industries with a complete design and build capability in advanced carbon composites.
