Carroll does the double at Spa

Adam Carroll took his second win of the weekend in round 22 of the Avon Tyres British Formula Three Championship at Spa-Francorchamps. The result means that Carroll is now just 26 points behind Nelson Piquet Jr, who took fourth place. James Rossiter can no longer claim the title after a disappointing weekend, claiming just one point from the two races.

Carroll got a great start from pole position and led Clivio Piccione and the rest of the field through Eau Rouge. As the rest of the grid jostled for position these two made a break, with Carroll immediately setting a couple of quick laps to pull out a solid lead.

However, a locked wheel as he braked for the Bus Stop chicane midway through the race meant that Carroll had to fight a slightly ill-handling Dallara from that point on.

"I caught some of the oil that went down on to the circuit from the previous race and locked the left front quite badly into the Bus Stop," said Carroll. "It flat-spotted the tyre and made things pretty difficult from then on. It even made my vision blurred as I went into left-handers,"

"It is going to be really tight at Brands Hatch now though. The two races will certainly be very tough," he added.

Piquet managed to work his way up to fourth place. The Lola-Dome of Danny Watts was his first target after the Promatecme F3 driver was caught unawares after battling for third place with Danilo Dirani. As Piquet challenged it allowed Dirani to break away slightly and Piquet needed two laps to finally get clear of the Lola and close in on his fellow Brazilian.

Lucas Di Grassi managed to break away from Marko Asmer and Alvaro Parente to claim sixth place. Estonian Asmer was able to hold off the attacking Portuguese racer to claim seventh place.

Ryan Lewis took his 15th race win of the year in the Scholarship Class. Vasilije Calasan took third place and managed to close the gap to Stephen Jelley for second place in the championship as the Performance Racing driver finished in fourth place. Ronayne O'Mahony finished second.
