55TH MACAU GRAND PRIX
As the countdown to the Grand Prix begins, keep track of the drivers and riders who could be Macau-bound in November!

Windsor Arch Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix
The FIA Formula 3 International Cup

New Sponsor for Jewel in the F3 Crown

The FIA Formula 3 Intercontinental Cup will have a title sponsor this year. As well as taking title sponsorship of the entire Macau Grand Prix, Windsor Arch will also lend its name to the blue riband race which every young single seater racer on the planet wants to win. The Windsor Arch Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix will be held on Sunday, November 16th over 15 laps of the Guia Circuit, with a 10-lap Qualification Race held on the Saturday.

Macau Champions Update

Following his victory in the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix last year, Oliver Jarvis was signed up as a factory driver by Audi for the 2008 season competing in the highly popular Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM, German Touring Car Masters). Jarvis, winner of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award in 2005, is competing for Audi Sport Team Phoenix against a very experienced driver line-up as he continues to progress his Motorsport career.

2006 Macau winner and British F3 Championship that year, Mike Conway, continues his sparkling career with a second season in GP2. He scored his maiden GP2 win recently, dominating the 30-lap sprint race at the Monaco round in May, where former Macau Grand Prix competitor Bruno Senna scored his first victory of the season.

Macau winner in 2005, Lucas di Grassi, is another driver well on his way to the top. GP2 runner-up in 2007, di Grassi is competing in his second season as well as being a Renault Formula 1 reserve driver.

The Macau Grand Prix has long been recognised as the place to spot a future Formula One star, and that it precisely what happened to Poland's Robert Kubica in 2005. During his third visit to Macau, Kubica caught the eye of BMW Motorsport and, although he finished second, his talent was so evident that just 2 ½ years later, he was to stand atop the podium at a Formula One Grand Prix.

FIA World Touring Car Championship

Tarquini On Top

SEAT Sport's Gabriele Tarquini leads the 2008 FIA World Touring Car Championship with a 15 point margin from Yvan Muller The Italian driver collected 58 extra kilos of success ballast for the points scored in the championship classification plus 25kg for being the second best scorer in the Czech weekend. Therefore he is the first driver so far to receive the maximum 70-kg success ballast provided by the sporting regulations.

His competitors will be far lighter, with Alessandro Zanardi the best scoring driver in Brno, on 48 kg, only one more than his BMW Italy-Spain team-mate Felix Porteiro.

Meanwhile Proteam Motorsport's Sergio Hernandez is the new leader of the Independents' Trophy. With two victories at Brno, the young Spaniard managed to jump on top of the classification with a 5-point margin ahead of his team-mate and 2007 champion Stefano D'Aste.

While Tarquini may be enjoying a comfortable lead at the top of the Championship, Zanardi recently achieved yet another of his goals since returning to racing after the accident which almost claimed his life in 2001. At Bruno in the Czech Republic, he took his first pole position since 1997, going on to win the race, and just missing out on a double victory crossing the line 2nd in the second race.

The next round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship will be held at Portugal's Estoril Circuit, as the season reaches the halfway point.

Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix

It was an exciting Isle of Man TT this year for many Macau regulars. Two-time Macau winner Steve Plater was awarded the first Supersport Junior TT after Bruce Anstey was disqualified, with John McGuinness second. New Zealander Anstey overcame the disappointment to win the second race.

Australian Cameron Donald claimed his first Isle of Man wins as he took the Superbike race victory on the opening day, finishing 10 seconds ahead of Relentless Suzuki team-mate Bruce Anstey, with Northern Ireland's Adrian Archibald in third. He followed up his maiden victory with a win in the Superstock Race, ahead of McGuinness and Guy Martin. The back-to-back victories came almost a quarter of a Century after the last TT success by an Australia, as Donald equalled Graeme McGregor's achievement of 1984.

After a difficult week in which he was plagued with mechanical glitches, Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix winner McGuinness came back with a vengeance to win the Senior TT, his 14th Isle of Man victory. That puts McGuinness equal with the great Mike Hailwood, with only Joey Dunlop having had more success.
