Queenslanders to lead charge in Xtreme bike battle

Eighteen-year-old Queenslander Brendan Clarke is in a strong position to reaffirm himself as a genuine contender in the Yamaha Formula Xtreme TT series, when the Queensland Raceway hosts round four of competition this weekend.

The Gold Coast campaigner, who rides for the Labrador based Bio Magnetic Nikon Yamaha Team, has been buoyed by the misfortune of the top two riders on the competition table, when fellow team members Kevin Curtain and Daniel Stauffer crashed out at Phillip Island during the Australian Championships three weeks ago.

"Brendan was the youngest ever rider to accrue points in the World GP 500cc Championship when as a sixteen year old he performed strongly during a three race stint in Europe and is currently placed third in the Formula Xtreme series," Queensland Raceway Chairman John Tetley said.

"To have him leading from the front in such a competitive series is great for Queensland motorsport and at his home track I'm sure he'll have a distinct advantage over his rivals."

"Brendan will also be the number one contender in the Supersport class where he has cemented his second placing behind Curtain and supporters will have the opportunity to see one of Australia's most promising bike riders in action this weekend at the Queensland Raceway."

"It could turn out to be a Queensland whitewash with Currumbin's AlumaLite Racing Team duo Benn Archibald and Ben Attard out to lift themselves from eighth and ninth on the series table."

Gold Coast riders are also leading the charge in the support classes with reigning champion and current Nakedbike leader Craig Trinder waving the flag for Bio Magnetic Nikon Yamaha but he can expect a strong challenge from Alumalite Racing's John Allen who is currently placed second.

The two veterans have proven to be extremely hard to beat, leading home strong fields of up and coming young riders, but continue to show that age and experience is always hard to beat. On their home track at Willowbank, they will give their younger rivals a lot of hurry up and more than likely something to chase.

Another Queenslander to look out for during the 24 race schedule at Queensland Raceway is first time Supersport series rider Judd Greedy (Top Rider Motorcycle Shop, Brisbane) who qualified 5th at Phillip Island and looks to have the capability to cause a boilover.
