Sepang Asia Talent Cup: Yanseen scores first championship points

A support event to World Superbike series, the third round of the Asian championship took place at the Malaysian Sepang circuit, this weekend.

Japanese teen Kazuki Masaki took pole on Saturday with Yanseen only 19th, a massive 6.548s off the pace.

In the race on Saturday, Yanseen made a couple of places at the start to 17th, before losing a place to slot at 18th.

With two falls up ahead, the Indian moved to 15th by the final lap, and a further contact between two riders meant, the Indian was 13th when the chequered flag was waved, scoring three points.

Andi Izdihar took the win, while Ryusei Yamanaka finished second and Gerry Salim completed the podium.

Battle for last point in Race 2

For the second race on Sunday, Yanseen had a strong start to run 14th after first few laps, having started from 18th on the grid.

In a close field, the Indian dropped places to 18th midway into the race, before getting into a tussle with Chun Kit Law and Deniz Oncu.

The Chinese rider Law and Yanseen were fighting to score the solitary point, both exchanged places for last few laps.

While they battled, Oncu joined the fray and took the spot from both in one corner, to take 15th from Yanseen.

But with Salim falling in the last corner of the final lap, Yanseen moved into 15th fending off Law to score one point.

Up ahead, Somkiat Chantra won from Yamanaka and Izdihar - the latter two separated by a mere 0.004s at the finish line.

Thai Chantra leads with 106 points from Yamanaka, as Indian Yanseen opens his account in the championship collecting four points, sitting at 17th.
