POWERBOAT P1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTS MANUFACTURER'S AWARDS IN MIAMI

Chaudron/Ilmor and Outerlimits/Mercury Honored for Winning Season

Adding to the worldwide pedigree of the Miami International Boat Show, Powerboat P1 World Championship will use the venue to present its 2009 season Manufacturer's Award to three American companies and one Maltese boat builder that were instrumental in the series championships. The awards ceremony will take place in the Outerlimits display booth, B-45 at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12. Powerboat P1 officials will also be on hand to discuss the series North American debut in 2011.

Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats and Mercury Racing will be presented with the hull and power honors, respectively, for the Evolution Class Championship won by Italian race team #88 SNAV OSG. Giancarlo Cangiano, Hannes Bohinc and Giovanni Carpitella raced the SV 43-foot Outerlimits, powered by twin Mercury Racing 750 HP engines, earning a total of 877 series points in what was a season-long battle that came down to the final race for the title. This is the first Powerboat P1 World Championship title for both manufacturers.

No stranger to Powerboat P1 World Championship titles, Ilmor High Performance is the engine champion in the 2009 SuperSport Class. Ilmor, which won the Evolution Class Manufacturer's Award in 2007 and 2008, was the power behind the Maltese-built 41-foot Chaudron hull owned and raced by Italian Angelo Tedechi and co-piloted by Aaron Ciantar, whose family manufactures the boat on the island nation of Malta. This was the pair's second title win in as many years and the third for team owned Tedeschi. The #43 Seagull Chaudron, powered by twin Ilmor V-10, 570 HP motors, fought hard all season and took the championship with 977 points, just 20 points ahead of the second place competitor.

Along with a Powerboat P1 management representative will be Powerboat P1 USA Operations Director, Martin Sanborn, to answer racer and sponsor questions about the 2011 Powerboat P1 World Championship North American season. Powerboat P1 management recently announced the establishment and promotion of a North American series, which will include three classes of vee-bottom boats and be sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association (APBA).
