Lucas Oil Joins Madison Regatta & H1 Unlimited

MADISON, INDIANA (April 7, 2010) - The Lucas Oil Company has agreed to become the title sponsor of the 2010 Madison Regatta and an associate sponsor of the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane series.

In announcing the sponsorship, Madison Mayor Tim Armstrong and H1 Unlimited chairman Sam Cole said the race will be titled the Lucas Oil Indiana Governor's Cup. It will be the 60th anniversary of the event, which will take place over the July 4th weekend on the Ohio River in Madison.

Madison Regatta president Crystal McHargue stated, "We are pleased and excited by the generous sponsorship opportunity Lucas Oil has provided us. On behalf of the entire Madison Regatta organization and the city of Madison, I want to thank Mr. Forrest Lucas and the entire Lucas Oil organization. Having such a great company, with close ties to Indiana, join forces to stage this unique and historic racing event is especially gratifying. Madison Regatta Incorporated also thanks Madison Mayor Tim Armstrong for his leadership in making this sponsorship a reality."

Lucas Oil spokesperson Cathy Hale said, "Forrest and Charlotte Lucas are excited about being involved in this outstanding event in their home state of Indiana. They have been impressed with the volunteer effort by the citizens of the Madison area, who have supported their community's celebration and kept it successful for 60 years."

As part of the associate sponsorship of the H1 Unlimited series, Lucas Oil will supply all race teams and series vehicles with all oil and lubricants used in race engines and gearboxes as well as all transporter trucks and trailers and other equipment.

Cole, an Indiana native who worked with Madison city and regatta officials to bring Lucas Oil into hydroplane racing, praised Mayor Armstrong and the Madison Regatta board of directors for the effort to bring the company into the sport saying, "The addition of a prestigious company like Lucas Oil to our sport is a huge step forward. We are very proud to be part of Lucas Oil's motorsports sponsorship portfolio and our race teams will realize a real benefit from the quality products supplied to them during the season."

Cole continued, "We are confident that Lucas Oil will find their relationship with the outstanding event staged by the Madison Regatta committee and the H1 Unlimited Series to be very positive and rewarding and we look forward to having them with us for a long time."

The Lucas Oil Madison Regatta H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Race, along with a weeklong festival, attracts upwards of 50,000 to 60,000 spectators. The Madison Regatta is the longest running stop on the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane schedule, and will also serve as the inaugural race site for the 2010 H1 Unlimited racing season. Race fans attending this year's event will see Unlimited hydroplanes racing deck-to-deck at top speeds of 200-mph on the Regatta's 2 1/2 mile Bill Cantrell Memorial Race Course. The event will culminate in the presentation of the Lucas Oil Indiana Governor's Cup trophy to the race winner on Sunday afternoon, July 4th.

Lucas Oil Company, founded in 1989, is a producer of high quality automotive oils, additives, and lubricants. Company Founder, President, and CEO Forrest Lucas began his career as a trucker in Indiana, expanding his operation over the next twenty years. Seeing the need for a better lubricant for his trucking operation, Mr. Lucas began his search eventually leading to the creation of his own special formula for the trucking industry.

Lucas Oil gained significant status and name recognition when in February 2006 the company secured the naming rights for the new stadium in Indianapolis, current home to the Indianapolis Colts. Lucas Oil continues to grow in spite of the current economy, employing approximately 350. The company has a major manufacturing facility and headquarters in Corydon, Indiana and corporate headquarters in Corona, California.
