Citroen Racing Trophy goes to the wire

The final round of the UK's Citroen Racing Trophy takes place this weekend on International Rally Yorkshire, where three of the five French pocket rockets will battle it out for the 2010 one-make series crown.

Leading the championship by thirteen points is Ulsterman Mark Donnelly, but since fortune favours the brave in the Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship points system, all drivers must drop their worst score at the end of the season.

Since Donnelly is the only Citroen driver to have finished each event this year, he will almost certainly drop his fourth place finish from the Pirelli Rally in April, meaning that the positions are really much closer.

Just two points separate Donnelly and Irish title rival Robbie Barrable when dropped scores are taken into account, so it is a straight fight to the end of this super fast gravel event.

Adding spice to the fight though is Australian Molly Taylor. While it is only a mathematical chance of victory for the 2010 Dulux Trade MSA British Ladies Rally Champion, she could still steal the prize with a win if the boys ahead fail to finish.

However there are two more potential flies in Taylor's title ointment, since not only is County Donegal's Joe McGonigle hoping for a clean run to prove his undoubted pace, but Englishman Richard Sykes is back for a final attempt to get to the finish unhindered by technical maladies.

All five drivers are more than capable of winning the event, but the pressure is probably greatest on the duo at the head of the C2 pack. Not only is the title at stake, but as always the final round of the Citroen Racing Trophy offers thousands of Euros in prize money, more than enough incentive to go for it!

International Rally Yorkshire gets underway with an autograph session and ceremonial start on the south end of the town's Marine Drive from 6pm on Friday. A single seventeen mile stage awaits the crews in the Dalby Forest complex, before a service and overnight halt back at Marine Drive.

Saturday sees two loops of Dalby stages split by a another service in Scarborough, before the eventual Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Champion is crowned at the Marine Drive finish at 6.15pm.
