Airwaves BMW Chips in for Charity

Airwaves BMW star Rob Collard took time out before the HiQ MSA Touring Car Championship at Croft Circuit to help a local charity.

Volunteers from St Teresa's Hospice in Darlington were fundraising at the track on Sunday to help with the 25,000 GBP-a-week running costs of providing care to terminally ill people in the region, and Collard visited the charity's stand along with the team's Leyland Lovelies to hand over a pile of merchandise for them to auction off.

Among the goodies were used alloy wheels from the BMW 320sis of Rob Collard and Jonny Adam, t-shirts, posters, calendars and of course plenty of Airwaves chewing gum. All the items were signed by Airwaves BMW aces Collard and Adam.

In addition to auctioning off the items provided by the team the St Teresa's volunteers also ran a tombola and collected donations in buckets on the gates to the circuit.

Airwaves BMW Team driver Rob Collard said:

"It's great to be able to help out such a worthy cause and I hope the hospice raise a fantastic amount from the British Touring Car Championship race day at Croft. I'm sure the bumper crowd brought out by the sunshine will dig deep into their pockets and contribute generously to the hospice's fundraising efforts."

St Teresa's Hospice Darlington fundraising manager Scott Marshall said:

"We are really grateful for Airwaves BMW, Rob Collard and the rest of the BTCC paddock for taking time out to help a local charity as they go around the country racing. As well as helping us to raise cash to provide our services to people in the South Durham and North Yorkshire areas it also helps to raise the profile of what we do. Last year we opened a children's bereavement and counselling centre for families and it's a really unique service in our area. We receive no government funding for any of our services, and the money to run them is all raised from days like today. We're sharing the proceeds from the bucket collections at Croft with the Great North Air Ambulance Service, so all the money will go towards two really good local charities providing help to local people."
