BMR says it is the equal of BTCC works teams

Team BMR boss Warren Scott says his outfit can now be considered equal to any other in the BTCC after securing its first wins of the season at Donington Park.

Jason Plato and Colin Turkington gave the Hertfordshire-based squad back-to-back wins in the first two races on Sunday, while Aron Smith was in the mix to make it a BMR hat-trick in the third race before a coming together with Josh Cook’s Chevrolet.

BMR consequently now sits atop the teams’ standings by 14 points from Honda Team Dynamics, a state of affairs Scott believes makes his team comparable in stature to any of the BTCC’s three constructor teams.

“I would like to think that BMR is the equal of the works teams,” said the 43-year-old.

“It may be only a young team, but we have plenty of experienced people on board who are very good at their jobs.

“We were confident we’d be there or thereabouts pre-season. The test day at Donington suggested as much, and then the races at Brands Hatch confirmed that – the second race really belonged to Jason,” he added, referring to Plato’s puncture while leading commandingly at the Kent track.

Asked whether he felt one of his drivers could now go on to take the title, Scott said: “I’m confident – they’ve certainly shown they have the pace, so it’s just a matter of progressing the car.

“We didn’t get through everything we wanted to over the winter, so we’re still learning about the car and how to make it more consistent, especially on the soft tyre. There's a bit more pace left to come."
