MG commits to BTCC for further three years

The British marque first joined forces with Triple Eight, which ran Vauxhall's works BTCC programme from 1997 until 2009, in 2012 to run the MG6 in the championship.

Two-time BTCC champion Jason Plato took the new car to third in the standings in its first season, achieving the same result in 2013 and improving to the runner-up spot last year.

Andrew Jordan and Jack Goff formed the team's driving strength in 2015, replacing its previous line-up of Plato and Sam Tordoff, Goff taking MG's sole victory of the season at Snetterton.

"We’re delighted to renew this important strategic deal," said Triple Eight boss Ian Harrison.

"This year we saw an even more competitive BTCC and, while our drivers didn’t always get the results hoped, we took small comfort in the fact we had a year of zero mechanical and electrical faults; which is rare in this business and is an example of the high standards that Triple Eight prides itself on.

“That quality has been a deciding factor for MG, who are realising the opportunity that the BTCC offers and we’re looking forwarding to working on the new MG6 platform for the coming three years.

"I fully believe we can once again be strong contenders for every title on the table.”

Jordan is moving on to the Motorbase Ford team in 2016, while Goff says he is hopeful of being retained by MG for a second season.
