The West Surrey Racing driver got the jump on pole-sitter Colin Turkington off the line, completing the move around the outside of the first corner and was never challenged for the lead from then on.

Turkington and Plato filled the remaining podium places, with the top three remaining unchanged for the duration of the race.

The race was neutralised at the end of the first lap following a concertina at the Island hairpin resulting in a number of cars, including MG’s Ashley Sutton and the Mercedes of Aiden Moffat, suffering damage.

Once the race restarted, the top three cleared off into the distance, followed by Gordon Shedden and Tom Ingram - while the battle ensued behind, with the majority of the action coming from the MG of Josh Cook and Honda’s Matt Neal, reigniting the rivalry that began at Thruxton.

The pair swapped paintwork for a number of laps before the charging Rob Collard made his way past Neal and began hunting down Cook. Collard made it past the MG two laps later, but picked up a puncture having been forced close to the pit wall, and dropped down the field.

Cook came through the mayhem to finish sixth, ahead of Neal, Motorbase Performance’s Andrew Jordan, BMW’s Jack Goff and the Ford Focus of Mat Jackson rounding out the top ten.
