Silverstone BTCC: Jordan wins action-packed Race 2

Motorbase Performance’s Andrew Jordan won the second race of the day at Silverstone, passing early race leader Tom Ingram to keep his aspirations for a second British Touring Car Championship drivers’ title alive.

Ingram started from pole position after being confirmed as the winner of Race 1 when the two MGs of Ash Sutton and Josh Cook were excluded due to a rear-wing infringement.

The Speedworks Toyota driver held the lead into Copse, with Jordan’s Ford and the Toyota of Rob Austin close behind.

Ingram was being hounded by Jordan’s Ford during the early phase of the race, while Austin began to slip, falling behind Adam Morgan’s Ciceley Racing Mercedes on lap five, with the Team HARD Toyota of Jake Hill also able to make his way ahead of Austin's Avensis.

Further behind, the two Team BMR Subarus were working their way up the order, with Colin Turkington being shadowed by team-mate Jason Plato.

Jordan made his move for the lead on lap eight, passing Ingram’s Toyota at Becketts, while Adam Morgan was able to get ahead of Ingram at Luffield for second position.

Further behind, the two Subarus of Turkington and Plato made light contact with each other at Brooklands shortly after passing Rob Collard’s West Surrey Racing BMW on lap nine.

Turkington and Plato’s last victim in the race was Hill, passing the Toyota on lap 11 before they caught and followed Ingram’s Toyota to the finish, just off the podium.

A late race puncture for Jeff Smith in the Eurotech Racing Honda saw the safety car deployed as debris was left on the circuit on the Wellington Straight on lap 16.

This allowed Gordon Shedden the opportunity to take a few more scalps with the Honda at the restart, with the Honda driver working his way forward from 23rd to finish eighth and pick up critical points in the drivers’ standings, and also luck into the reverse-grid pole pole position with the #8 drawn by former BTCC star Paul Radisich.

Jordan went on to win the race just under a second ahead of Morgan’s Mercedes, with Ingram completing the podium.

Sam Tordoff managed to extend his championship lead after the West Surrey Racing driver finished 11th, while Honda’s Matt Neal recovered from 24th to finish in 15th, picking up a single point.

Tordoff now leads the championship on 268 points, 14 clear of Neal, with Shedden now back up to third, 22 behind, with Rob Collard 23 down, and Mat Jackson and Andrew Jordan fifth and sixth, 28 and 29 points behind.
