The West Surrey Racing BMW driver led away teammate Andy Priaulx and Plato at the start, Turkington moving up from fifth on the grid to slot into fourth.

By the end of lap one, Tordoff was six tenths clear of his nearest pursuer, and by the time Priaulx – carrying maximum success ballast after his race one win – had slipped behind the BMR Volkswagens of Plato and Turkington, his lead was up to 1.6s.

From there, there was nothing that Plato could do to reel in the leader, Tordoff stretching his advantage to take a second win of the season by a margin of 2.3 seconds over the two-time champion.

Turkington and Priaulx held station in third and fourth places close behind Plato, with Gordon Shedden repelling the advances of Rob Austin and then fighting his way past Rob Collard at two-thirds distance to take fifth.

Collard held off Austin by just a tenth in the battle for sixth, with Tom Ingram the best of the soft-tyre runners in eighth. Adam Morgan and Jack Goff completed the top 10, Matt Neal unable to manage any better than 11th from his grid slot of 13th.

Andrew Jordan also suffered on the soft tyres in the second of the works MGs, slipping from the fringes of the top 10 down to an eventual 14th in a race to forget for the 2013 champion.
