Ben Jurczak selected as CAMS Rising Star

Ben Jurczak selected as part of 2009 CAMS Rising Star Squad The Australian Motor Sport Foundation (AMSF) today confirmed that 15-year-old Queenslander Ben Jurczak has been selected to be part of the 2009 CAMS Rising Star program.

Jurczak will fill the vacant seat in the 2009 Victorian Formula Ford State Championship, following the withdrawal of David Whitmore from the 2009 CAMS Rising Star program.

"I'm excited at being chosen to be part of this great program for 2009, and the opportunity to work with the experienced professionals at Borland Racing Developments," said Jurczak.

Jurczak was considered for the 2009 program but failed to meet the age requirement at the time. However, following CAMS' decision to lower the age requirement for circuit racing in Australia from 16 to 14 years, the AMSF took the opportunity to provide Jurczak with the chance to fulfil his ambitions in Formula Ford.

"Being the youngest member of the Rising Star Squad this year, I am looking forward to learning from the more experienced members of the squad," said Jurczak.

AMSF General Manager Martin Stillman said, "We are delighted that Ben has joined the CAMS Rising Star program for 2009."

"Ben is a talented driver and is the youngest ever member of our team. I look forward to watching his progress throughout the season."

Jurczak has a strong karting background, competing in the 2008 National Karting Championships and taking out the 2007 National Championship (Junior National Light).

CAMS CEO Graham Fountain said this opportunity demonstrates the benefits of the recent decision to lower the age limit.

"As a result of this initiative, the AMSF has been able to provide a fantastic opportunity to a talented young driver," said Fountain.

As a member of the CAMS Rising Star squad, Jurczak will benefit from AMSF financial support, as well as support services such as attendance at AIS camps, regular contact with the program's psychologist, mentoring from a leading business person and access to AMSF networks.

The CAMS Rising Star program acknowledges the support from its partners including the Australian Sports Commission, Borland Racing Developments, OAMPS Insurance Brokers, Mark Webber, GMP Racing Products, Azuma and VDO.
