LUFF QUALIFIES THIRD IN DECINA FALCON

Decina Racing's Warren Luff has qualified third for the opening round of the HDPC V8 Supercar Series on the streets of Adelaide today.

Luff was in the top three all day despite failing to find a perfect balance over the two practice and qualifying sessions in his Decina Falcon.

Fellow Ford drivers Dean Canto and Adam Macrow claimed the two front-row spots ahead of Luff, Tony D'Alberto and Doric Racing's Phil Scifleet.

Luff and Scifleet both have their cars prepared by the Gold Coast-based Paul Cruickshank Racing organisation.

The qualifying session was red-flagged early after a single-car accident involving Ford driver Grant Denyer -- who was taken to hospital with a suspected broken hand and dislocated shoulder.

While Luff believes he had the equipment to be on pole, he is now focused on getting a strong start in tomorrow's twilight race and then settling into a rhythm to open up his championship account with as many points as possible.

"The car is improving every session, but we are still chasing a bit of balance," said Luff.

"We have had a few teething problems that you would expect with a new car, but nothing major.

"I am disappointed that we are not on pole, but the race will provide a whole new set of circumstances.

"I had a bit of a brake lock up on the hairpin on a quick lap and that may have cost us pole, but that's history.

"It will be interesting to see how tomorrow's race unfolds, but I am sure tyre wear is going to be important over 24 laps."

Tomorrow's race begins at 6.45pm and there will be a second 24-lap race on Saturday at 9.55am.
