TRV Earns 10th Starting Spot For USRRC Race at Homestead
HOMESTEAD, Fla., May 16 - The Toledo, Ohio-based TRV Motorsport team and drivers Jeret Schroeder and Tom Volk earned the tenth qualifying spot Saturday for tomorrow's United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC) race at Homestead Motorsports Park.
Schroeder was behind the wheel of the Supreme Exhaust Systems Products Chevy Kudzu No. 95 in qualifying, and he toured the 2.21-mile road course at a top speed of 98.638 mph. Tomorrow's two hour, 15-minute race starts at 2 p.m. and will be televised on a one-hour tape delay on Speedvision.
James Weaver and Butch Leitzinger's Riley & Scott Mk. III Ford earned the pole in the 27-car field.
"Qualifying was short but sweet," said Schroeder, who lives in Vineland, N.J. "We went a little over 2 seconds faster than we did yesterday in practice.
"We feel that the car is well balanced and it's a comfortable race car to drive," said Schroeder. "We're just hoping for a good start and a consistent run, and we should be competitive tomorrow.
"The track is a blast!," he added. "Homestead is one of the nicest facilities and track layouts in the country."
"Jeret did a really great job in qualifying," said co-driver and team owner Tom Volk of Blissfield, Mich. "That's the best we've ever qualified for one of these races. We made a few changes to the car since yesterday and he put together some nice laps in qualifying. He drove very, very well. We're very happy."
Although Schroeder and Volk are busy at Homestead this weekend, they're keeping a close eye on the television too. Lyn St. James, their teammate in races earlier this year at Daytona International Speedway and Sebring International Raceway in Florida, is attempting to qualify for her seventh Indy 500 this weekend, and they're cheering her on in spirit if not in person. They both plan to travel to Indianapolis next week to cheer her on in person, too.
