Rally - Antoine L’Estage back in the driver’s seat
Ten-time Canadian Rally Champion Antoine L’Estage is back in the driver’s seat this weekend as he participates in the Rocky Mountain Rally in British Columbia.
Antoine L’Estage and his co-driver Alan Ockwell won the final round of last year’s Canadian rally Championship, the Big White Winter Rally to give L’Estage his 10th driver’s championship.
This year, with Subaru Canada not running a works team, L’Estage decided to gain experience on the international rally scene by doing notes for Gus Greensmith and Craig Parry who ran a WRC2 Ford for M-Sport at the Monte-Carlo rally. L’Estage performed similar work during the recent Tour de Corse in France, also round of the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship.
He and Ockwell will be driving a 2015 Subaru Impreza WRX STI prepared by Pat Richard’s Rocket Rally team in this weekend’s Rocky Mountain Rally. The demanding event is made of 11 timed stages for a total of 181 km of hard driving on gravel roads near Invermere in the Columbia Valley, British Columbia.
Many people believed that L’Estage had gone into retirement after his win last year.
On his professional Facebook page, he wrote earlier this week: “Interesting to see how people are talking about a ‘return’ for Alan and I!!! We’ve only missed one rally. Did we ever say that we were done?”
