We are exceptionally thrilled to be entering our tenth season and honoured to have had so many strong supporters and partners such as Continental Tire Canada over the years, not to mention the support of Castrol (Wakefield Canada) when the series was founded. We take pride in the fact that we are Canadian owned and operated, and that we are one of the longest-running professional sports car series in Canada. Notably, amongst the two hundred and some drivers that have competed in the championship, CTCC has helped to further the career of over thirty drivers. Those are some pretty impressive statistics!
“I am humbled by the support that we have received from the motorsports community, officials, sponsors and competitors since our first event,” stated John Bondar, President of CTCC. “We have worked hard to show leadership in Canadian motorsport and to provide the best racing possible. But most importantly, I am extremely grateful for the fans and the continued support they show us.”
CTCC will again be featured over seven event weekends at some of the most challenging tracks in Canada. The traditional two-race format will be enhanced with two three-race weekends, for a total of sixteen championship races. Touring, Super Touring and Grand Touring classes will participate at all events.
The opening rounds of the 2016 championship will take place on the four-kilometre circuit of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on the Victoria Day SpeedFest weekend. CTCC will head to Calabogie Motorsports Park for the Kyle Nash Memorial Weekend in June. Calabogie is a special challenge for the drivers with its long layout and 23 corners.
The series will travel to Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec at the beginning of July. ICAR is a technical track and is known for its unique airport layout. Later in July, CTCC will be featured at Shannonville Motorsport Park in a special triple-header event. Known as the Birthplace of Champions, Shannonville has a reputation for being one of the best training tracks in Canada.
The competitors will look forward to the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières in August. Featured in a special night race on Friday evening, the competitors are always well received by the enthusiastic crowd.
CTCC will then enjoy a return engagement to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on the Labour Day holiday weekend as part of the popular NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event. For the final event of the season, the series will return to Calabogie to conclude with a second triple-header event at the beginning of October.
“It is appropriate that we begin our 10th season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as it is where CTCC first raced back in 2007 and it has hosted more CTCC events than any other venue in Canada,” concluded Bondar. “There are a couple of other notable firsts; CTCC was featured at Calabogie’s first race event weekend in 2007 and at ICAR’s first race event in 2008.”
