GT3 CUP CHALLENGE LOVED THE BEAST, RAISE $4500 FOR CHARITY
COMPETITORS AND PERSONELL from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia series really loved the beast.
And whilst some do show strong affection for their Porsches, we're talking about the brand-new Eric Bana film Love the Beast, of which a "Word of Mouth" advance screening was held at Bathurst Cinema's during the first round of the 2009 season at Mount Panorama a month ago.
GT3 Cup Challenge competitors, series officials, invited members of the media and guests viewed the fantastic film that was written and directed by GT3 Cup Challenge competitor Bana as a charity fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. And they all loved it.
The series kicked off its 2009 charity fundraising efforts by raising almost $4500 on the night.
The Mayor of Bathurst, Paul Toole welcomed the guests to the event before the film was officially introduced by Eric himself.
The film documents Bana's love for his Ford Falcon Coupe' and the role it has played in his life as a 'campfire' - a place where he and his mates gather to catch up and play.
Though interviews with luminaries like Jeremy Clarkson, Jay Leno and Dr. Phil, the movie is a funny, interesting and often moving look at Bana's love for his car and the massive role it has played in his life.
There is startling cinematography, some hilarious comments from local and international racing identities and some brilliant on-board footage and audio of Eric and his co-driver at work in the Targa Tasmania.
Those who were fortunate enough to be present were raving as much about the film as they were about the experience of racing in the midst of a grid of over 40 cars at the Mount Panorama circuit.
"The night was a huge success," Category manager Jodi Zylstra said.
"We are very thankful to both Eric and the film distribution company for allowing us to show the film as an advance charity screening during the Bathurst 12-hour weekend. It was also great to have Eric and the Mayor of Bathurst along on the night to help us welcome our guests and introduce the film.
"Everyone had a fantastic time and were buzzing about how much they enjoyed the film when they walked out. It was a fantastic night enjoyed by all, but the fact we were able to raise nearly $4500 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities makes it even better.
"This is the first of many charity events the series will hold in 2009," Zylstra added. "With the support of our sponsors, McDonald's, Racer Industries, Michelin and SMS Commander we are going to make this a fantastic year for the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia series and the Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia."
VIP Petfoods driver Tony Quinn won the first round of the 2009 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge series, with Bill Pye and Sven Burchartz finishing on the outright podium in second and third.
All 44-cars entered for the Bathurst round sported Love the Beast windscreen banners to help promote the film, exposing it to the near 30,000 crowd at the event and to the large national TV Audience forthcoming on the Seven Network.
A half-hour highlights package of the action from Mount Panorama will be shown on Seven on April 4 - check your local guides for details.
