AASCO Motorsports races for local Make-A-Wish Foundation

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., January 28, 2004 -- AASCO Motorsports announced today a special effort to raise funds for local chapters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® (MAW). For this weekend's 42nd Running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, the Anaheim, California-based race team will use driver and team pledges to contribute to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® chapter that serves the Daytona area and two California-based MAW chapters. All contributions designated to the No. 16 of Craig Stanton, David Murry and Tim Sugden will go to the local MAW chapter, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central and Northern Florida. All donations dedicated to the No. 17 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entry of Gary Becker, Derek Clark, Pat Flanagan, Joe Kunz and Mark Webber will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Los Angeles and the Make-A-Wish Foundation® Orange County.

Contributions for the No. 16 will be based on:

Each participating driver, team member and team friends, will make a donation based on the number of hours completed by the No. 16. If the car earns a SGS class podium finish (first, second or third) AASCO Motorsports will match the amount raised by the drivers and team members for the local chapter. If the No. 16 fails to finish the event for any reason, AASCO Motorsports will be responsible for a $100/hour donation for the hours of the race not completed.

Contributions for the No. 17 will be based on:

Each driver of the No. 17 has contributed to the "California MAW Pool." An even or odd designation will be chosen prior to the event's start for the LA and Orange County Chapters. This designation will remain in a sealed envelope until the finish of the event. The overall finishing position of the car, even or odd, will then determine which chapter of the California MAW (Greater Los Angeles or Orange County) will receive the donation. If the No. 17 takes a SGS podium finish, the drivers will double their contribution and both chapters will receive a donation equal to the initial "California MAW Pool".

A running tally of each car's fund raising effort will be kept and updated every hour in the AASCO Motorsports pit lane throughout the 24 Hour race.

Dennis Aase, owner: "Several of our drivers have been heavily involved with the Make-A-Wish program for years so this was a natural way for us to get involved. We want to make these two cars run to the front and stay there. The longer the cars run and the higher they finish, the more kids' wishes we can make come true."

Craig Stanton, driver, No. 16: "I get to live my wish everyday by racing Porsches. Being a part of the Make-A-Wish effort to make children's wishes come true is the best way I can imagine to say 'thanks' for that opportunity!"

Gary Becker, driver, No. 17: "I have worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation several times before and it has always meant so much. I try to live by one motto; 'For the children... anything."

David Murry, driver, No. 16: "I am so proud to be part of a team raising money for Make-A-Wish. Here we are driving race cars for a living, how lucky are we. It puts it all in perspective. When you see the smile on the kids' faces that visit with us it's indescribable. You get pretty attached to them in a short time. It's very special."

Mandy Reimert, Team Make-A-Wish Representative: "As both an amateur racer and a Board Member of my local chapter of MAW, the question I always ask -- other people, as well as myself -- is how these wishes compare with wanting new tires, better suspension or more horsepower? I think it is very important for us all to remember how fortunate we are to be able to race cars. And I hope every time someone sees a MAW decal on a race car it makes them think about how lucky they are, and maybe it will make them want to share their good fortune with others.
