Michael Shank Racing to Feature Paralyzed Veterans of America in Rolex 24 At Daytona
Mission: ABLE Heads to Daytona International Speedway
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (28 January 2011)- With a staff of over 40 people on site to support a three-car effort in North America's premier sports car race, Mike Shank has a clear mission in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
But his goals won't purely be achieved on the track, as the team owner announced on Friday that the No. 6 Ford-Dallara set to be driven by AJ Allmendinger, Justin Wilson, and Michael McDowell in the 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona will carry the colors of Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans) to promote their newest campaign - "Mission: ABLE."
Mission: ABLE is a campaign to enlist all Americans - citizens, communities and corporations-to help our paralyzed heroes fully live the lives they deserve and to receive what they need most: care, benefits and jobs. For more than 64 years, Paralyzed Veterans and its 34 chapters have been working to create an America where all veterans and people with disabilities, and their families, have everything they need to thrive. Paralyzed Veterans of America represents thousands of veterans in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
"Our veterans have sacrificed so much for this country, and we have an amazing opportunity to help those who have sacrificed to make our way of life possible," said Bill Lawson, national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America. "We are very excited about how much of an impact that Mission: ABLE has had and we want to continue to grow the program. I want to personally thank AJ Allmendinger for making this possible and we are very excited to be part of Mike Shank's effort at Daytona this year as we kick off 2011."
Paralyzed Veterans, which is also an active partner with Richard Petty Motorsports in the NASCAR Sprint Cup ranks, has found new success by working with organizations in motorsports.
"Being so focused on what we do in racing and in our every day life, you can sometimes take for granted everything that our veterans have sacrificed for us to have the opportunity to live the way that we do," said team owner Mike Shank. "So we couldn't be more proud to have Paralyzed Veterans of America with us for the 24, and we urge our fans to visit the site and see what they can do to help. It's a great cause and one that we should all feel very good about supporting."
The 49th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona will take the green flag on January 29 at 3:30 PM ET LIVE on SPEED.
