USAR: USAR's Satterfield supports Petty charity

Fayetteville, GA (November 11, 2002) -- United Speed Alliance Racing veteran Don Satterfield has begun a grassroots campaign among the members of the Hooters ProCup Series to help Kyle and Pattie Petty with efforts to raise funds to help build Victory Junction Camp.

Located in Randleman, NC, The Victory Junction Gang Camp is scheduled to open in 2004 and will be modeled after the original Hole-in-the-Wall Camp that actor Paul Newman built in Connecticut for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. The Victory Junction Camp was co-founded by NASCAR racer Kyle Petty and his wife, Pattie; with its land donated by NASCAR legend Richard Petty and his wife Lynda.

"I met Kyle back in the early 1980s when he just started racing," said Satterfield. "When I heard his former car owner, Felix Sabates, say 'if everyone could just give one dollar they could easily raise the money to build this camp', I felt why not go to all the competitors in the Series and ask them to help any way possible. I just want to do my part to help children -- that is all I care about, helping kids."

One car owner has jump-started the contributions that will assist the efforts to build the facility. USAR Hooters ProCup Series competitors have already raised over $2,600 with car owner Ricky Benton donating $2,000 from his pole award winnings over the past two Championship Series events. Jason Sarvis, driver of the Naturally Fresh/Black's Tire Service Chevrolet, has won two consecutive Buffalo Nickel Buffalo Burger Pole Awards and Benton has made the decision to donate both checks to Satterfield's fundraising efforts.

"I can't thank Ricky Benton and his entire team enough for their support," added Satterfield. "I want to personally thank Ricky for his generous donation and I hope this is motivation for other teams to do what they can to help Kyle and Pattie raise money for these special children. I hope we can use this donation to increase awareness for the rest of the members of USAR."

USAR Chaplain Jim Evans has assisted Satterfield in his efforts and will accompany Satterfield to present the donations to Kyle and Pattie after the Series concludes its season on November 30 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL. For Satterfield, finishing the season is not the priority for him later this month.

"I know I am not going to win the championship, but I certainly hope my fellow competitors will find a way to help us. Even if it is just one dollar at a time," Satterfield said. "If we can make one child and his family happy at this camp then it has been worth it all."
