The Indian has made a name for himself in the country having bagged an impressive 17 national titles including the 2015 Raid de Himalaya, widely regarded as India’s toughest cross-country rally.

2017 will see Aravind take a major step in international stage as he competes in Dakar between January 2-16, joining CS Santosh, the first Indian to take part in the cross-country rally.

The Bangalore-based rider will continue his association with TVS, who have been his long-term supporters in domestic rallying scene.

The Indian manufacturer serves as a technical and financial partner of France’s Sherco Racing since the 2015 edition.

"It took a while for it to sink in,'' Aravind said upon the announcement in Mumbai. "It was an overwhelming feeling to realize that it was going to happen."

"TVS has already scheduled a training programme. That’s what I would be focusing on. Getting my navigation skills right. "

"I will also be doing Rally of Morocco [in October], that is part of training as well,'' revealing the plans of the team ahead of Dakar.

Last year the factory team fielded Alain Duclos, Joan Pedrero and Florent Vayssade for the rally. They are yet to confirm the other riders for 2017.

The 39th edition of Dakar will converse through Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina, covering a total distance of over 9,000 kms.
