The Dakar contenders waited a warm welcome in Chile today. The sixth stage was not only long but also very tough. Two thirds of the route contained a very direct introduction to the Atacama desert, followed by a generous portion of fesh-fesh, gravel and even asphalt in the last part.

In this final part of the stage Erik Wevers and Fabian Lurquin made a decisive jump forward. Between waypoint 8, 9 and the finish line the Riwald pair went from 13th to 10th place. They managed to beat home rider and Mini-driver Boris Garafulic on their way up front. Thanks to this day result, the top 10 is in sight for the Dutch team. For now the fastest Riwald drivers are qualified in twelfth position with more than 22 minutes a drift of Orlando Terranova, who is tenth in the overall classification.

At the time of writing Gert Huzink and Eugénie Decré are still underway. The Dutch/French pair is doing a decent job and are around the 30th place in the timing. The stage victory went to Nasser Al-Attiyah. Stéphane Peterhansel is in the lead of the car category.

Erik Wevers/Fabian Lurquin (car number 325) "It was a severe trial today: really heavy, but also very cool to drive. For the first time in days we didn’t suffer a flat tire. I am glad we were able to show today what the HRX Ford is capable of. "
